Sphagnum. The substrate of 1000 uses
Share
Sphagnum is one of the best allies of gardening enthusiasts and in particular of the grower of orchids and carnivorous plants.
Ortisgreen Sphagnum is the product chosen by I Giardini di Ellis.
It is a genus of moss belonging to the Sfagnacee family, it is possible to find it in nature in the characteristic sphagnum moss, a sort of active vegetal carpet made up of large colonies of this plant in marshes or swamps.
The structure of the sphagnum moss determines a real aquiferous tissue and acts like a sponge, absorbing and retaining the humidity inside. With aging, the lower parts of the plant (the stems) die and rot, constituting the growth substrate for the young branches which multiply continuously, giving rise to new individuals.
Slowly but steadily these seedlings develop and renew themselves from the base to the head of the plant.
Sphagnum moss constitutes the ideal environment for many species of plants, from the symbiosis with some types of bacteria (the development of fungal organisms or bacterial infections remains inhibited) originates its typical antifungal and bacteriostatic characteristic which allows you to create an ideal environment for growth of many species of plants, for the taking root of the cuttings and for germinating the seeds, even the less fertile ones.
